Applying Lean Principles to the Factory Layout for a Pager Company

The company produces electronic pager and pager systems worldwide to armed forces, medical and rescue organisations. Following restructuring of their manufacturing, they wanted to apply lean principles to their factory layout. They also wanted to start developing an involvement and ownership culture.

We developed and led a workshop to facilitate the factory management group in drawing up a new layout for phased implementation using lean principles.
Following the workshop team, working improved. The Goods In/Out changes were implemented.

One of the operators quoted that “the change had made a big improvement to how they work”. The Operations Manager quoted “the training had worked. Some tools and techniques have been used by teams in their work. People have started to take ownership for their areas”.
